Tom is retired from dentistry and dental education. Wendy, a Scottish lass, is a home economist and a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.

The name of the inn is derived from the Scottish term for a hill, brae, hence "Braeside". Newly constructed, the inn has a Scottish theme. Tom and Wendy decided to name the three guest rooms after their Scottish roots. Besides being born and raised in Scotland, Wendy’s mom was a Watt, which is a sept of the Buchanan Clan, hence the Buchanan Room. Tom’s grandmother was a Brown whose mother hailed from Edinburgh. Brown is a sept of the Lamont clan, thus the Lamont Room.

Wendy and Tom are intrigued by the work of the 19th century architect and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. His architectural design was supported by his unique ability to integrate fine art and craft. Wendy’s brother-in-law’s mother was a Mackintosh. The third room therefore had to be dubbed Mackintosh. Throughout the inn several handmade pieces of furniture and mosaic stained glass pieces serve both functional and decorative purposes. Our inn logo is also inspired by Mackintosh.
